Educators & Coffee Team Updates

I received the following updates from the Educators team this morning:

"The expression of faith at Mufumya Baptist Church was amazing! We had a great time of praising the Lord with about 250 people. The church is growing and starting 2 new churches and expanding the home church size with an addition. There are lots of youth! Our faith was greatly encouraged - and we thought we were going to encourage them.
We also had a meeting with the Elders after Church, what a day! The missionary fruit of their foundation is evident in the church of Mufumya, Praise God!"

"The opportunity to return to Burundi has been a wonderful experience to strengthen our partnership with FH Burundi and build on those relationships that I made on my previous trip. It was a welcome experience to return and fulfill the beginnings of the education partnership with the schools of Mufuma, Musema, and Buraniro 1 and 2.

The education conference focused on the care of the student and the higher calling of the teacher. Overall, we were warmly welcomed as we spoke about child development, spiritual formation and teachers as leaders. The teachers engaged in dialogue as we demonstrated teaching practices in our own classroom experience and learned about their struggles with class sizes, pay issues, workload and lack of adequate resources.

I am very excited moving forward in our education partnership as we continue to receive feedback from Burundian educators as to where they desire to drive this important aspect for their own nation. It will involve more opportunities for future participation as the Lord continues to open doors in this essential element for holistic community action."

The Coffee Team has had quite the travel adventure, but praise God they've now arrived safe and sound in Bujumbura! Their flight from Montreal to Brussels was 45 min late in departing which had them a little nervous about their short connection time in Brussels, but thankfully they made it - only to be kept waiting for another delayed departure, this time an hour. Thankfully though, this also allowed all their bags to safely make it on the plane. After 26 hours of straight travel, I think they will all appreciate a clean change of clothes. :)

They are understandably tired and thankful to be stretching their legs after back to back to back flights, but are thrilled to finally be in Burundi and hopefully not too excited to sleep tonight.


Please keep both teams in your prayers as they spend tomorrow debriefing with each other, and then as the Educators prepare to say their goodbyes and begin their journey home and the Coffee crew gets acclimatized and gears up for their next 10 days in Kayanza.
